Chicago Cubs first baseman Anthony Rizzo let the expletives fly Friday night at PNC Park, exploding on the umpiring crew in the bottom of the first against the Pittsburgh Pirates after his ostensible leadoff home run was ruled a foul ball following a conference. Here’s the play in question:
Though Rizzo wasn’t tossed for his outburst, Cubs manager Joe Maddon did get sent to the showers early, getting ejected after arguing the ruling with crew chief Jeff Kellogg and home-plate umpire Will Little.
Had the umpires not reversed the call, Rizzo, who got bumped to the top of the Cubs’ lineup Tuesday, would’ve had his third leadoff home run in as many games.
