Watch: Bird soars with clutch bomb off Andrew Miller

Cleveland Indians reliever Andrew Miller allowed only a single home run to a fellow left-hander in the regular season. He picked a bad time to allow another one.

New York Yankees first baseman Greg Bird – who missed most of the season with a recurring ankle injury – blasted a towering solo shot off Miller on Sunday night in Game 3 of the ALDS. That gave the Yankees a slim 1-0 lead in the bottom of the seventh inning, and they’d go on to win by that score, keeping their season alive.

In his brief career, Bird has actually fared better against lefties, batting .257 compared to .218 against righties. But Miller is perhaps the toughest lefty of all, and Bird owned him.
