The Kansas City Royals have lost seven straight games and have scored the fewest runs in baseball through 21 games. Averaging only 2.6 runs per contest, the Royals are floundering at the bottom of the American League Central.
Despite the disastrous start to the season, MLB.com’s Jon Morosi says the club is not looking to start selling off its assets just yet. A Royals source told Morosi that the team is confident in its ability to rebound, citing the surprising 2014 season when the team came back from a sub-.500 record in July to reach the World Series.
The AL Central hasn’t gotten too far out of reach. Despite the losing streak, and having only scored more than two runs once in the last 10 games, the Royals sit only 4 1/2 games out of first place.
Should the team’s boat continue to take on water, the Royals may have no choice but to sell. Eric Hosmer, Mike Moustakas, Lorenzo Cain, Alcides Escobar, and Jason Vargas are all free agents after the season and Ian Kennedy has an opt-out clause in his contract.
