Now you can honor Adrian Beltre with a toast to umpiring infamy.
Back when Beltre was still on his way to becoming a member of the 3,000-hit club, the Rangers third baseman was infamously ejected by second-base umpire Gerry Davis in a game against the Miami Marlins on July 27 for moving the team’s on-deck circle closer to him.
Now, as the Rangers prepare to honor their iconic veteran with his own celebratory weekend Sept. 8 and 9 before they face the New York Yankees, fans attending the second contest will receive something to remember the historic incident forever, as the club will give away 15,000 mouse pads designed just like the on-deck circle.
“We just wanted to give the fans their very own Rangers On-Deck Circle that they can move around on their desk at work or home,” Chuck Morgan, the team’s executive vice president of ballpark entertainment and productions, told the Dallas News’ Evan Grant. “Comes complete with an Adrian Beltre signature and without the fear of being ejected.”
