Watch: Volquez secures 2017’s 1st no-hitter on dropped 3rd strike

It wasn’t through the most conventional means, but Edinson Volquez will take it.

The Miami Marlins hurler earned the first no-hitter of the 2017 season Saturday after recording 10 strikeouts on just 98 pitches against the Arizona Diamondbacks, but none were as nail-biting as his last.

Though Volquez immediately celebrated after throwing strike three against Chris Owings, J.T. Realmuto was tasked with throwing the ball to first on the dropped third strike before the true celebrations could get underway at Marlins Park.
