PinstripesPlus.com: Tell us what is going through your mind after being selected by a team like the Yankees.
Aaron McGarity: I’m pumped up. Nothing could be more amazing than fulfilling a childhood dream, especially for a team with such a reputation as the Yankees.
PinstripesPlus.com: Were you surprised it was the Yankees that selected you? Had you and the Yankees talked much before the draft?
McGarity: I wasn’t too surprised by the selection because the Yankees had been talking to me before.
PinstripesPlus.com: Do you have any idea what the Yankees’ organization or farm system is like?
McGarity: I don’t really know what the Yankees organization is like but I’m excited to learn. This is such a prestigious organization that I’m proud to be a part of.
PinstripesPlus.com: What type of pitches do you throw and at what speeds? Give us a scouting report please – what are your strengths and what do you need to work on the most?
McGarity: I throw fastball 91-94 mph, slider, 78-81 mph, and changeup 80-83 mph. My strengths are flexibility and work ethic. Things I need to work on are consistency and velocity.
PinstripesPlus.com: Did you have a favorite team growing up or a favorite player?
McGarity: My favorite player growing up was Tim Lincecum because he was always undersized and pitched to his strengths.
PinstripesPlus.com: Who would you compare your stuff to at the Major League level so Yankees’ fans can get an idea of what you’re like on the mound? And why?
McGarity: I would compare my stuff to Tyler Clippard, mainly because people say I resemble him.
PinstripesPlus.com: What would you say is your best moment in baseball and why?
McGarity: My best moment would definitely be getting drafted. It’s an unbelievable feeling to finally fulfill a dream.
PinstripesPlus.com: Do you think the pressures of pitching in New York might be a problem?
McGarity: I don’t think it’s that much added pressure at all. Playing pro ball has the same feeling for most teams I’d say. I don’t feel any different with the Yankees.
