Jake Sanchez to the DL
After taking a line-drive to the head on Sunday, RHP Jake Sanchez has been placed on the Midland disabled list. He sustained a busted ear drum when he was struck by the line-drive, which was clocked at faster than 100 MPH. Sanchez has allowed only one run in six innings this season and he has converted both of his save opportunities. The right-hander has 11 strike-outs and two walks.
Replacing Sanchez on the Midland roster is right-hander Jesus Zambrano, who joins the team from Extended Spring Training. The 20-year-old Zambrano had a 4.85 ERA in 72.1 innings for Low-A Beloit and short-season Vermont last year. He is the youngest player on the RockHounds’ current roster.
Matt Olson returns to Nashville
The Oakland A’s optioned first baseman Matt Olson back to Nashville on Thursday to make room for Thursday night starter Kendall Graveman on the 25-man roster. Graveman returns to the A’s rotation after missing one start with right shoulder soreness. Olson spent six days with the A’s and appeared in just one game. He went 0-for-3 with two strike-outs. Olson is batting .216/.322/.353 in 14 games for Nashville this season.
Sean Murphy lands on the DL
Stockton Ports’ catcher Sean Murphy landed on the seven-day DL on Wednesday, retroactive to April 23rd. To replace Murphy on the Stockton roster, the A’s sent Jose Chavez from Midland to Stockton. Chavez had been on the Midland seven-day DL. Murphy left the Ports’ game on April 22nd early and hadn’t played since. The A’s 2016 third-round pick is batting .208/.300/.396 in 15 games for Stockton this season. Chavez spent last season with Low-A Beloit. He hit .207 in 80 games but is known for his defense behind the plate.
Luis Barrera sidelined
Beloit Snappers outfielder Luis Barrera was placed on the disabled list on Wednesday. He was replaced on the Snappers’ roster by outfielder Mike Martin, who returns from the DL. Barrera is batting .266/.329/.328 in 19 games for the Snappers. He is in his first season above the short-season level. Martin returns after being injured during the second game of the season. He hit .298 in 34 games for Beloit last year.
